Pottery is not as simple as it looks. One has to have years of ongoing practice to mold something with clay on the wheel to perfection. Once a piece is made on the wheel or through hand building it has to dry to a bone dry state before it is loaded in the kiln to bisque fire to 1000°c then once the bisqueing cycle is over the piece has to be glazed. Glaze is a powder to which water is added and made in to a fluid which covers your piece through either dipping, pouring, brushing or spraying. Once the layer of glaze dries it is put back in to the kiln which fires up to 1200°c . Your glaze melts and catches on to the piece and gives a matte or shiny layer.
